Behind the scenes of playing Henry Hampshire in Disney+'s Rivals

Brendan Patricks plays Lord-Lieutenant Henry Hampshire in Rivals, the Disney+ adaptation of Jilly Cooper's bestselling novel.
Set in the glamorous and competitive world of Rutshire, Rivals follows ambition and romance against the backdrop of 1980s Britain. Henry Hampshire is the head of one of the oldest aristocratic families in Rutshire and friend to Tony Baddingham and Rupert Campbell-Black.
The Hampshire's are rich in land but cash poor and live in Hampshire Hall, filmed in real life at Berkeley Castle.
Henry first appears in episode 4 of Season one of Rivals for the pheasant shoot. He becomes part of Venturer shortly afterwards and plays polo for the Jones Jets in the first episode of the second season.

Preparing for the role involved two months of polo training before filming began. Like many members of the cast, Brendan had to learn not only advanced riding but also the skills needed to hit balls and race during the series' polo sequences.
Of all the preparation for both series of Rivals, learning polo was the part Brendan least expected when he first received the audition.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of working on Rivals was the scale of the production. From the locations and costumes to the cast and crew, every department worked to bring Jilly Cooper's world to life.
The series features an outstanding ensemble cast, including Danny Dyer, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, David Tennant and many other familiar faces.
Since its release, Rivals has received widespread praise from critics and audiences for its performances, humour and entertaining storytelling.
